An interesting special find

One of the nicer finds from the Alton Big Dig was an unusual clay pipe bowl seen below.

What is unusual about this pipe bowl is that it bears the crest of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. We are checking our reference book on clay pipes to try to date it but some quick research by our members has already shown that at least two Alton/Selborne men belonged to this regiment and were killed in the First World War. we will update when we have some more information about the pipe's age.
